The coast is always a magical place for so many reasons. Barry Island has a special place in my heart as it was the local seaside destination for me and my friends and family on hot summers days in my childhood.

The coast is always atmospheric and wild, even on calm days. Perspective is different and scale becomes distorted. The light changes from moment to moment and if your eyes are open, you are moved by it. The coast is mysterious too, in that it contains surprises if you care to look for them.

The coast also has an interesting relationship with people. They leave things there, they take things from it, they socialise and have family occasions at it. They walk in solitude, they walk the dog, they contemplate. They bathe and cleanse and they take primeval pleasure in walking barefoot in the sand and taking the salt air in their faces and their lungs. From the beach we can imagine what is 'out there', where are we in relation to everything else. We are so small in the context of our environment but we find ways of leaving our mark on it.
